About the coin

What is USDT

USDT (Tether) is the largest stablecoin: a digital asset whose price is pegged to the US dollar at roughly 1:1. It is the most liquid instrument on the crypto market — a significant share of all settlements and trades in digital assets happens in USDT, and its total circulating supply is measured in tens of billions of dollars.

What is a stablecoin

Stablecoins are a class of crypto assets whose value is pegged to a traditional currency or commodity. They connect two worlds: the speed and accessibility of blockchain with the predictability of familiar money. USDT has been issued by Tether since 2014 and became the first mass-market asset of this class.

According to the issuer, every token in circulation is backed by reserves — cash and highly liquid instruments. When a user redeems USDT with the issuer, the tokens are removed from circulation, which is what maintains the peg to the dollar.

How it works

USDT exists on several blockchains at once — Ethereum, Tron and others. Casheron uses ERC20 USDT, which runs on the Ethereum network: the most widespread and widely supported version of the token, accepted by virtually every service and exchange.

The USDT rate against the ruble or the som moves together with the dollar exchange rate: the token itself stays stable relative to USD. So the fluctuations you see on the chart mostly reflect the currency market, not “crypto volatility”.

What USDT is used for

USDT is often called the “digital dollar”: people use it to keep savings in dollar terms, lock in profits after selling volatile assets, and make fast transfers and settlements. For many users it is the first step into digital assets — familiar dollar value in a new technological form.

It is worth understanding the instrument's specifics: USDT's stability rests on the issuer's obligations and reserves. That is a different type of risk from bitcoin's volatility, and it also deserves consideration — for example, by not keeping all funds in a single asset.
